RHST: Headbutting Means Never Having to Say You’re Sorry…and Zombies

Apparently nearly four years removed from his now infamous head butt on Marco Materazzi, Zinedine Zidane still refuses to apologize. I’m not here to judge him, he claims Materazzi said some pretty questionable things about his mother and we all know how guys generally are about people talking about their momma. Zidane has paid the price for his actions and I’m not here to re-hash the story. What interest me about this most recent statement from Zidane is the fact he says he “would rather die” than apologize to Materazzi. That’s pretty harsh, I mean death has a way of being final, unless you come back as a zombie but that’s hardly what I would call living. For Zidane to make that statement shows the seriousness of what Materazzi said, at least in his mind, and the justification for his actions. Think about this for a minute…how often as a kid growing up did you get so angry with a parent, sibling or friend that even though you were in the wrong you felt you would never apologize to them? Inevitably you would calm down, come to your senses and apologize. Now imagine a perceived wrong so intense that even four years removed you still refuse to apologize. That’s intense. I’m not advocating for Zidane to change his mind on this, I just worry about him tempting fate by mentioning death as something he’d rather do that apologize.

Landon Donovan apologized to his teammates in the locker room following Everton’s 2-1 loss to Spurs on Sunday. Donovan was on the receiving end of a lovely cross from Jack Rodwell and for lack of a better term, “Landycaked” it. Such is football, just bury the damn ball next time. Despite the ridiculous accusations from my American Soccer Show co-host on Twitter and on this week’s show, Evertonians are not throwing out all of LD’s accomplishments while on loan with the club over this. Though jokes about Donovan hanging around too much with Diniyar Bilyaletdinov have begun (the Russian has missed a couple sitters as well this season).

In honor of one of my favorite zombies on Twitter, ZombieJaqua, I’ve discovered the strangely morbid My Zombie Pin-Up website. The site has the clever tag line, “Where Beauty Eats BRAAAAAIIIIIIIIINNNNNSSSSSS!!!!™. I love the internet.

I appreciate the picture of Zidane up there. I wasn't sure if anyone else in the world liked both football and RPGs.
